Since the beginning of the FPS, "camping" as many like to call it, has been a moral battle amongst gamers. In every game, there is a weapon which offers the most promising results from "camping". Today I am going to talk about the shotgun, shotty, or flak cannon (referring to the Unreal Tournament series). All games feature a variant of this close range monster and there are always players to use it. Is it really the campers fault for you dying for the third time however? I say "no" because if they're hiding in the same place for 5-10min. and in that time they kill you three times, maybe by the third time you should be able to pre-aim and kill THEM rather then getting on your mic and ranting about "campers" for the next three games. On the other hand, if you apply yourself to killing the "camper" you put yourself in the open to be killed by other players. So without "camping" there would be less intensity in the games, making it a key ingredient in the multiplayer side of a game.
I disagree with a shotgun being a "campers" tool of destruction however. If you hide behind a corner waiting for an easy one-shot kill, I will personally call you a "noob". With ALL the skillful ways to kill a player fairly and gentlemen/womenly why take the easy route and fire a single bullet to get the one kill. "Run and Gun" can be VERY affective with a shotgun, run up behind players dont hide from them. A backstab or shot from behind in my eyes will always be the perfect way to demean a gamer and gain rank on leader boards.
